OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Metropolis training officers say an area faculty will now not be named after Accomplice Gen. Robert E. Lee. However the resolution will not require a lot of a reputation change.
The Oklahoma Metropolis College Board agreed Monday that Lee Elementary College would now be named after Adelaide Lee, an Oklahoma philanthropist. The college district says she empowered girls and kids with entry to training and day care providers.
The board additionally unanimously voted to switch the names of colleges named after two different Accomplice generals: Stonewall Jackson and Stand Watie.
Jackson Enterprise Elementary shall be renamed after Mary Golda Ross, a Native American engineer from Tahlequah identified for her aerospace work at Lockheed Martin. A college named for Watie will change into Esperanza, the Spanish phrase for “hope.”
The board voted in October to rename the faculties.
